The members of the Theravadan Buddhist community in England also held several Theravada-style meditation retreats and seminars at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. Every semester, Catholic Father Rogers of Humboldt State University brought a group of students on a short field trip to the City, giving them a chance to learn about Buddhism and find out what life in a monastery is like. Each time Father Rogers also held a Catholic Mass in the Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas. It was a mutual learning exchange, unprecedented in Buddhist monasteries around the world. The major Dharma assemblies held annually at the City attract large numbers of Easterners and Westerners. To further mutual understanding and support among religions so that they could work together for the prosperity of humankind and for world peace, the Venerable Master invited Protestants, Catholics, and followers of other religions to the World Religions Conference held at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in 1987. Also in 1987 the Master gave a major address at the Third International Buddhist-Christian Dialogue Conference in Berkeley. Once the Master was invited to give a eulogy at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. In 1989 the Master was invited to the Quaker Retreat Center at Pendle Hill, Pennsylvania to give a series of talks, and in 1992 he was the guest speaker at the yearly Vedanta Society gathering at Olema, California.
