Join the community of the City of 10,000 Buddhas in a week-long recitation session in honor of Earth Store Bodhisattva's Birthday. You will have a chance to recite the Sutra of the Past Vows of Earth Store Bodhisattva each day as well as recite his sacred name while walking and sitting down.
Earth Store Bodhisattva, also known as Ksitigarbha in Sanskrit and Dizang Wang Pusa in Chinese, is one of the four great bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism. The other bodhisattvas are Manjushri Bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. Earth Store Bodhisattva is known for his great vows. He vows that as long as living beings are still suffering, he will not enjoy the bliss of nirvana.
Shakyamuni Buddha, in the sutra, says of Earth Store Bodhisattva:
If people can but hear the name Earth Store,
And when seeing his image revere him and bow in respect,
And offer incense, flowers, clothing, food, and drink,
Those gifts will bring them hundreds of thousands of joys.
If they can dedicate such merit to the Dharma Realm,
They will become Buddhas, transcending birth and death.
Contemplator of the World's Sounds, know this well
And tell everyone everywhere in lands like Ganges sands.
This is a session not to be missed!
