Mission Statement
Our Buddhist schools, in partnership with parents, work to instill and
develop in our students the core virtues of kindness, filial piety, respect,
trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship, integrity and humility. we provide an
environment for our students to achieve their full academic potential and become
outstanding citizens who will contribute to making our world a better place.
About Our School
| The Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, Founder of the Instilling Goodness/Developing
Virtue Schools, came to America to propagate Buddhism in the west. He vowed to
save the world through education. Before becoming a
monk, he had established a school in his home in order to teach the impoverished
children of his community at no charge. |
 |
Later, continuing to act on his vow, the Master founded Instill Goodness
Elementary School in 1976, followed by Developing Virtue Secondary School, the
first Buddhist high school in the nation in 1981, hoping to inspire children to goodness, and to encourage transformation
and virtue in young people.
The Campus
| Instilling Goodness and Developing Virtue Schools are on
the grounds of a 488-acre Buddhist monastery, convent, university, and
international community 110 miles north of San Francisco. Surrounded by
mountains, rolling hills, vineyards, and pear orchards, the clean air
and landscape of Ukiah Valley of Mendocino County, California provide an
ideal environment for fellowship and study. |

individual religious practices and the beliefs of other faiths is encouraged. To
enrich spiritual understanding, however, all students are introduced to
traditional Buddhist values and practices, and join in a daily meal ritual and
ceremony at noon.

Realm Buddhist Association, as well as experienced teachers from around the
world, who create stimulating learning environments through a blend of Western
