Early American Disciples

In 1951, the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua established the Western Bliss Monastery in Hong Kong. This photo was taken in 1956.

In 1970, the inaugural issue of the Vajra Bodhi Sea (VBS) monthly Buddhist Magazine was published.

In 1973, the International Institute for the Translation of Buddhist Texts was established (3636 Washington Street, San Francisco, CA). The opening ceremony was held on October 14th, 1973.
